Lizzie (11th Hour Theatre Company at Christ Church Neighborhood House, Philadelphia) by Steven Cheslik-Demeyer, Tim Maner and Stevens Hewitt

What can I say about a rock opera based on the life, trial and subsequent acquittal of Lizzie Borden?  Go, go, go!

This show is a rollicking, rockin’, raging good time.  The band, under the direction of keyboardist Dan Kazemi, would have been right at home on MTV’s Headbanger’s Ball and the four woman cast is in fine voice and fettle.

Alex Keiper is an angry, guilty and totally unrepentant Lizzie who rocks, rolls and spits lyrics like poisonous darts.  Cara Noel Antosca plays her badass big sis and protector, Emma.  As the neighbor (and undercover lover), Alice Russell, Meredith Beck is ethereal in appearance and a bombshell vocally.  Rounding out this quartet of talented rock chicks is Rachel Brennan as the pissed off, put-upon and vocally powerful maid, Bridget Sullivan.

A stage with minimal scenery, costumes that are Victorian by way of a Goth shop, attitudes that are totally 21st century and terrific songs sung by powerful singers all collide to make this a murderously good time.
